The easiest way to try extensions
A lot of people want extensions but feel nervous about committing. That’s completely fair. It’s your hair, and you don’t yet know how you’ll feel about the extra length and fullness. Tape-ins are the method I most often suggest for exactly that person: they’re quick, they’re comfortable, and they don’t lock you into anything.
A tape-in is a thin, flat weft of hair with a strip of gentle adhesive along the top edge. I take a small section of your own hair and sandwich it between two of these wefts, so the tape holds securely from both sides. That’s it: no keratin bonds, no sewing, no heat.
Why they’re my favorite starter method
Three things make tape-ins the easy on-ramp.
They’re fast. Of every method I offer, this is the quickest to install. If you’re short on time or just want to see results without a marathon appointment, tape-ins get you there.
They’re low-commitment. If you try them and decide the extension life isn’t for you, they come out cleanly at your next visit. You haven’t signed up for anything permanent.
They blend color like a dream. Because the wefts are so thin and flat, I can tuck them in to add brightness, depth, or dimension without ever putting dye on your natural hair. For a lot of clients that’s the whole appeal: a color change with zero chemical commitment.
Tape-ins are how a lot of my clients dip a toe in. Some stay with them for years; some graduate to another method once they know what they love.
Who they’re best for
Tape-ins suit most hair types, which is part of why they’re such a friendly starting point. They’re especially nice for first-timers and for anyone who wants flexible, adjustable length.
The one thing to know: tape and oil don’t get along. If your hair runs very oily at the roots, or you use heavy conditioners and masks up near the scalp, the tape can loosen early. I’ll talk you through the care routine so that doesn’t catch you off guard. It’s simple once you know it.
If your hair is very fine or you’re dealing with thinning hair, we’ll have an honest conversation about whether tape-ins or a lighter strand-by-strand method serves you better. Sometimes the answer is tape-ins; sometimes it isn’t, and I’ll tell you which.
What to expect
The appointment is short by extension standards. I’ll place the wefts flat against your head where they’ll stay hidden, then blend everything so it moves as one with your own hair.
Care is easy: wash and style close to normal, keep heavy product off the roots, and use the routine I give you. Every several weeks you’ll come back so I can move the tapes up as your hair grows and, often, reuse the same hair. That regular reset is what keeps them invisible and keeps your natural hair healthy.
Let’s talk it through
Not sure if tape-ins are your method, or whether extensions are right for you at all? That’s exactly what the consultation is for. Thirty minutes in my chair and you’ll leave with a clear, honest read on your hair and a plan, including a plain “let’s start somewhere else” if that’s the truth.
The consultation is free and runs about half an hour. When you’re ready, text Terri to book.
Let’s be honest about fit.
A great fit if you…
- Are trying extensions for the first time and want to ease in
- Want the fastest possible install
- Need seamless color blending or dimension
- Prefer a lower-commitment method you can adjust over time
We should talk first if you…
- Have very oily hair or use heavy conditioners near the roots
- Aren't able to keep a maintenance visit every several weeks
Not sure where you land? That’s exactly what the free consultation is for.
Common questions
What are tape-in extensions?
Tape-ins are thin wefts of hair with a strip of gentle adhesive along the top. I sandwich a small section of your own hair between two of them so the tape holds from both sides. They sit flat, go in quickly, and come out cleanly when it's time to move them.
Are tape-ins good for first-time extension wearers?
They're one of my favorite starter methods. The install is fast, the feel is light, and the commitment is low. If you decide extensions aren't for you, they're simple to remove. It's a low-pressure way to find out whether you love having the extra hair.
How long do tape-in extensions last?
The tape bonds usually need to be moved up every several weeks as your hair grows, and the hair itself can often be re-taped and reused after that. I'll give you a realistic schedule for your hair at the consultation rather than a one-size-fits-all number.
Do tape-ins damage your hair?
Not when they're applied and cared for correctly. The main things that cause trouble are oil and heavy product near the roots, which loosen the tape, and leaving them in too long. I'll show you how to care for them and keep you on a schedule that protects your own hair.
Can tape-ins blend with my color?
Beautifully. Color-blending is one of their strengths. Because the wefts are flat and thin, I can place them to add dimension, brightness, or lowlights without touching your natural hair with dye. It's a gentle way to change up your color story.
